RAMPANT FASHION COOPERATIVE TEAMS UP WITH SACRAMENTO RED DRESS PARTY
Sacramento, CA –Rampant will be invading the runway at Badlands Sacramento’s monthly “Fridays Are a Drag” event on September 21st, starting at 8pm. Designer, Jason Powers, will be creating 10 specialty dresses to be revealed during the show in anticipation for Sacramento’s First Annual Red Dress Party, which will be held in the same location on October 6th. The Red Dress Party raises awareness and funds to support organizations that engage in HIV/AIDS prevention, education, and care.
Taking on the challenge of designing dresses for both men and women, as well those who fall in between, Powers described his inspiration, saying, “I researched powerful women in warrior cultures globally, and throughout history, to create looks that encompass everything from Amazonian warriors to Queen Victoria.”
These dresses, all designed in red, were conceptualized not just to fit the theme of the party, but also because the color red, found on the red ribbon worn on the lapel of people around the world, is commonly accepted as the international symbol of HIV/AIDS awareness. The Sacramento Red Dress Party uses that symbol to build on a party concept popularized with sell out events attended by thousands annually in Portland, Seattle, and cities across the country.
“We’re going to have a lot of fun for a good cause,” said David Heitstuman, the Red Dress Party organizer. “Everyone will be wearing a red dress to symbolize solidarity with those living with HIV/AIDS, and as a reminder that we are all joining together in support of a common cause.”
The September 21st event, which does not require attendees to wear a red dress, will be just a taste of what’s to come at the official Red Dress Party on October 6th.
